London's Oldest Local Markets

reaLondon coordinates a choice of two days

Friday Local Markets theme day begins with a very early start at approximately 7 am with a trip to Vallance Road in London's old East End. The market here specialises in antique silver, jewellery, paintings, furniture etc for discerning traders and collectors. Next we travel to Borough Market - London's oldest food market nicknamed "London's Larder". No one can name all varieties of fruit or vegetables sold here. There is no European market offering a greater choice of gourmet delicacies either. Borough Market is also open to the public on Saturdays.

We lunch across the River in Leadenhall Market - London's oldest covered market right in the centre of the business area known as the City. There is a great choice of restaurants but we recommend a spanish tapas bar upstairs in the roof of the market. After lunch, we walk around the corner to visit one of London's oldest financial markets, Lloyds Insurance. Today it is housed in one of the City's most fascinating and controversial new buildings.
